Legend has it, many generations ago the Long Neck Padung
Kingdom was threatened by attacking Burmese troops. The Padung
Princess up rooted a solid gold tree and tied it around her neck
For safe keeping. As victory approached. The attacking Burmese
Chopped of the head of the princess to capture the the
Golden collar. So begins the Long Neck Tribes of Thailand.

"The Padung Long Neck Women" are originally from Burma. They are thought to be
a sub group of the Karen Tribe. The Young age of nine or twelve get their first 1/2 inch wire
collar and add one ring per year till married. A foot long neck is highly prized as well
as arms and shins. The rings are added by a witch doctor. As adults they can no longer hold their heads up
without these rings.
Beautiful Lisu Tribe Women And Child...
Perhaps the best-known subgroup of the Lisu is the Flowery Lisu in Thailand, due to hill tribe tourist. Lisu women are remarked for their brightly colored dress They wear a multi-colored knee-length tunics of red, blue or green with a wide black belt and blue or black pants. Sleeve shoulders and cuffs are decorated with a dense in blue, reds and yellow.
Most of the Tribes who make there homes in the highlands, are
the Meo, Karen, Yao, Lisu, Lawa, Lahu, And the Akha Tribe, who have their own distinct culture, language and dress style.
All of the tribes we came in contact with, welcomed us to their villages where we found there cultures were untouched by the 20th.

Now In Burma starting to wear these rings has been outlawed for young women so this tradition has now nearly died out along the Burmese padung hill tribes.
